The Heart of the Trail: Jessica Urton
My name is Jessica Urton, and I am the founder of Trailhead Trader. For me, the outdoors has always been a source of inspiration and transformation. I believe that nature is not just a place to visit, but a community that can support and shape our lives for the better. As a mother of three daughters, I've seen firsthand how our adventures together—from exploring trails to trying new sports—have created an incredible bond and a lifelong love for the outdoors.
My passion for adventure started early. I grew up with a mother who was a mushroom hunter, and I can still remember every trail we wandered together. As a teenager, I found solace and joy on multi-day camping trips in my own tent. The love of the outdoors runs deep in my family, from water skiing with my dad to finding a shared passion for caving, kayaking, rappelling, and scuba diving with my daughters.
For many years, I worked as a hiking and backpacking guide, sharing my knowledge of basic outdoor skills and the incredible, transformative power of nature. I've had the privilege of guiding trips all over the country and even in South America, where I recently mountain-biked the famous "Death Road" in Bolivia and climbed over 17,000 feet at Pique Austria.
I am a certified Wilderness First Responder (WFR), a 200-Hour Registered Yoga Teacher (200 RYT), and hold my ACA Level 1 Kayak certification. I pour my lifelong passion and expertise into every trip, and my goal is to show you that with the right guidance, anyone can find their own adventure and purpose in the outdoors.
